Feltorial 'Sleeping Aussie Baby' Hopping Mouse
Project 12 - Level 3.
The Big Eared Hopping Mouse is the final in the Sleeping Aussie Baby Series and is an ADVANCED Feltorial. It is advised that the first eleven SAB Feltorials are completed before you attampt this one. With over 50 pages of detailed instructions there are many skills that must refer back to previous scuplutes in order to keep the Feltorial as small as possible.
There is a SEALED SECTION and it is advised to view this with caution, especially in front of children and men, as it is confronting needle work.
This is the final Feltorial in the SAB series and there is a lot to learn. Every single technique that has been shown in previous Feltorials, is used in this one. The highly detailed features are a grand culmination of skills and techniques, unique to my style, of self taught needle felting.
The creation of minute fingers and toes will take the armature lesson to new levels. The challenge to make these limbs with next to no fibre. The stabbing replaced with one or two well placed pokes. The skills of wrapping and timely twists in the fibre to create features so subtle the eye gets drunk on them. This Feltorial is full of detail and attention to dedicated techniques from my previous Feltorials and they all finally come together in this tiny kangaroo like rodent. These skills will enable you to create anything in the future and I am excited to see where this takes you. The BEHM is my final chance to impart in my knowledge to date so there are plenty of my tips and tricks to open your mind even more.
There are lots of unique techniques in applying the fibre, more lessons about raw fibre and the addition of eyes takes this little creation to a new and exciting level. With the creation of a wool eye that is replaced with a glass bead at the end the transformation is magical in every sense of the word. There are plenty of opportunities to go rouge in this Feltorial as no one really knows what a BEHM looks like as they became extinct in 1843. This is a chance to create a realistic creature without the pressure of it being “perfect” and this helps your brain to finally accept the perfect imperfection lesson. As long as you employ my illusionary realism techniques you can make them look real enough to fool the eye even if it’s only for a second.
